Midterm Lesson Plan

Bell Ringer: What makes the United States a Federal system of Government and what are the three main levels in this system?

SWBAT: Define and Describe the Federal system of Government in the U.S. and learn how it is composed of a system of checks and balances by the local state and national governments.

** A 12th grade student will know some of the workings of the government in our country. They are already "aware" of the 3 main levels of government through elections, the media, etc. They are also should know that "The United States" means there are many states, each with their own government (State Govts.), that all abide by certain rules set out by the national government. Often times people mistake the national government, or in other words the government on a national level, for the "federal government."
