Greetings parents, my name is Frank Skawinski. I am currently a sophomore at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA. I live about three hours away from my school in Shelton, CT. I graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Trumbull, CT in 2002. My major is History with Secondary Education, which means I'm also taking classes to work towards a certification in teaching. My areas of interest in history are early to modern western civilizations, Japanese history, and the 20th century. I also play lacrosse for King's and enjoy playing the guitar.

It must have been my senior year in high school when I first realized I wanted to teach and help children grow. It was when I had to meet my 15 hour requirement (school requirement) for service hours and I got a job helping at the Daughters of Charity Mission, acting as a daycare aid for underprivileged children aged 3-5. When I realized how amazing and fulfilling it was to help these children, I decided to stay. Some of the things I did to help the children was teaching them their alphabet and playing with all of them at the playground. I earned over 200 hours of service that year by not only helping the children, but by unloading truck loads of boxed food and handing out old clothes to all of the local homeless people. The person who was in charge was Sister Theresa Trembley who is one of the most eminent people I have ever met in my entire life. After seeing all the good one person was able to do for her community, I knew I could do the same in the classroom.

Over the years I've had so many influential, terrific teachers that have helped me learn material and done so much more. The exceptional teachers were the ones that went above and beyond the call of teaching to do such things as become counselors for students and offer them after school help. Too many times have I experienced classes as a student where the teacher remained a facilitator of the classroom only dispensing test and reports. As a teacher, I don't want my students to feel this way about me. I want them to know that learning about things like history and civics is not only fun and interesting, but very relevant to their lives. I want my students to remember me as one of their most influential teachers, much similar to the ones I have met over the years.

I am a very open person so feel free to e-mail me by clicking the provided link above with any questions. I hope that I have the chance to meet everyone and that your child and I have a productive year together! Take care!
