Final Exam

Excel Spreadsheet Lesson

Point A: Can anyone tell me what program only has the use of spread sheets?

Bell Ringer:

How would everyone like to be able to use a spreadsheet to keep track of grades or records when your out living on your own and not have to use paper and pencil to add, subtract, multiple, and so on?

Some students i feel will respond positivly and be agressive to the idea while others will be not as excited. Some students one will encouner while teaching may just want to get the class over with and that may occur here because not everyone enjoys change and learning new things even if they are much more simpler.

Transition to Purpose: When becoming a teacher Excel could really help you teach a good lesson with visual help from theuse of Excel because it allows for you to keep your grades on it quickly and effectivly but also is good for charts. This could come in hand around the time of parent-teacher conferences or just when students are concerned about their grades.

SWBAT:

Students will be able to keep grades and find stundets average through Excel and eventually while woking with the program longer will be able to make charts as a use for visual aides if they ever need them.

If the students are ones in which they will be teaching soon in actual classrooms they will see that these programs really are a good use of technology for the classroom. Excel will show them a more easy way to keep grades and it is a nice way to grab students attention with the use of technology.

Response to Objectives (SWAT): I think students will like to enhance their use of technology though some may not have the interest as other i think the overall response in the end will be a positive one.

In Put:

Excel:

First you enter the students names into the first colum and then after their names enter the grades inwhich they received. To find the average of those grades click into the open box after the grades for the first name. You then click the equals sign, and then highlight the cells that have grades in them. Followed by clicking on the backwards E or 3 and click on average. Then click enter and the average will appear. and you continue this for each student. That is how you use Excel as a means of keeping grades for your classroom. You can add many different columns of different kinds of grades. Also charts are available for visual aides on comparing the different students or classes once you get into using the multiple spreadsheets and so on. Charts are made by highlighting the grades you would like to compare and then you just go to Insert then down to chart, pick the chart of your choice and your set. Then you can see with a chart the performance of multiple people. Excel is a good and effective use of technology that makes life much simpler and less stressful when having to work on the things one usually doesn't want to be doing.

Practice / Application

To practice using these program go to them on your computer and just make up some names and numbers for excel and just enter them and experiment. Also you could click on the link below to try and help you futher your skills with just about any computer program especially Excel.

I think students will like this because its not their teacher lecturing and showing them how to do something but they are the ones discovering on their own how to do it. It will allow for the stdents to change up the class and how its taught and students like having some control of their learning.

For the rest of class sit at your computer and play around with the programs and have some fun with these very good programs. Before class is out print out the work you have done whether it was just minor experimenting because you are jut being introduced to the program or something more advance so you can see the your finished product if you ever were to need to use the program and provide a hard copy to anyone.
