Bell Ringer: What do you think of when you hear the word technology?

**Brainstorm for 5 minutes some ideas and phrases we think of.
Objectives: (SWBAT:)
1. Come up with a working definition of "technology."
2. Understand when technology actually came about. (Prehistoric times)
3. Students will come up with inventions that have been made and their significance.
Lecture/Anticipatory Set:
1. Using some of the words we came up with in the begining, what would you think the definition of technology actually is?
2. When do you think technology began?
3. Who began this idea?
Activity:
1. Divide class into groups and have them collectivly come up with a list of 10 technological advances that they think are important to society today.
2. Next, ask them what advancement they can use to do research and then have them go on the computer (Click here) and find the dates in order to make a timeline for the class.
3. Using a long strip of paper, construct and illustrate these advances on paper.
Closure:
1. Tell them again the definition of technology:
**"Any invention, including tools, machines, materials, and sources of power, that makes people's work easier."
2. Reinforce that technology dates back to the caveman times when the use of fire was developed.
3. Display the timelines around the room and take 5 minutes for the children to go around and look at each others comparing their top 10 lists.
4. Make a final list of the 10 most important technological advances of our time.
