Objectives/Purpose: SWBAT identify the six biomes. SWBAT describe at least one region in the world that each biome is found in. SWBAT describe the environments of each biome (temp., precipitate, etc.) SWBAT tell a relative human population of each biome. SWBAT identify any animals that make their homes in each biome. SWBAT describe any characteristic that defines each biome.

 

Input: 1. What are the six biomes? 2. Name one country that houses each biome. 3. Describe tropical rain forests (rainfall, animals, temperatures throughout the year, plant life, human population etc.) 4. Describe the temperate deciduous forests (rainfall, animals, temperatures throughout the year, plant life, human population etc.) 5. Describe the tundra (rainfall, animals, temperatures throughout the year, plant life, human population) 6. Describe the desert (rainfall, animals, temperatures throughout the year, plant life, human population) 7. Describe the taiga(rainfall, animals, temperature throughout the year, plant life, human population) 8. Describe the savannah (rainfall, animals, temperatures throughout the year, plant life, human population)

Once reviewing the previous websites for further information and pictures on biomes, have the students construct a shoebox diorama which defines their favorite biome. Have them pick a climate that they feel they would most want to live in and make a small scale version of it. Have the students attach an index card to the back of the diorama stating why they want to live in this particular biome and ask them to describe their favorite aspect of it.
