Final Exam...

Point A:

Students should be able to use basic computer skills to start the excel program. they will know how to start it up but won't exactly know how to use it yet.

Bell Ringer:

How do you think teachers keep track of grades over the year? or Say you wanted to sell lemonade, what would be the easiest way to keep track of profit over time?

- students will respond to that by saying well you can make a chart or something along those lines i feel.

S.W.B.A.T.:

In this lesson students will be able to use the excel spreadsheet program on the computer. The students will realize that it isn't an easy task but once it is learned, it can help organize information and do math as well! Students will be able to notice that the excel spreadsheet can take the place of a calculator and will help you with such activities as:

1. M&M graphs

2. Animal speeds

3. Frequency charts

4. Heat below the earth

5. Independent variables

6. Skills self-assessment

7. Scenario analysis

8. Averages

9. Creating maps

The excel spreadsheet will help with teachers as well:

1. Gradebooks

2. Seating charts

3. Schedules

4. Phonics lessons

5. Standards reporting

6. Health and wellness

7. Food choices rubric

8. Behavior models

9. Sports statistics

To start, click on the excel X which will take you to the program. We are using the excel sheet today for grades.

Microsoft Excel should open, and you should see something on your screen that resembles a word processor, except it has a grid. Each little box on the grid is called a cell. Each column has a letter and each row has a number, therefore each cell has a label such as C5 as you see above.

Type Names into the cell A4. Notice that Names appears in the cell and in the white bar near the top. This white bar is for editing the contents of a cell. After names is typed in cell A4, move your cursor to cell A5 and type your name. after, proceed on down the line to cell A6and so on with 3 of your classmates names.

After there are four names precent on the spreadsheet, skip a cell under the last name and type in Maximum, Average and Percent. These three cells will help you find the maximum grade of the test score, the average grade, and then the percentage.

You will then click on cell A1 and type in whatever subject you are using this spreadsheet for. In this lesson, the subject will be Math.

Now for practice, go to cell 5B, right next to your name. Type in the grade you have recieved on the last test. When finished, go down one slot and give a grade to your classmates and so on. After, you will click on cell B10, this should be where the Maximum cell is if you follow it across and then to your name above. In this cell you will type in the maximum score that you could get on the test, could be 100, could be 50, and so on.

When that is finished, click on the cell next to average underneath test scores. above in the white box, you will see this:

=AVERAGE(

Next, you will highlight all of the test scores of you and your classmates going from top to bottom, you will see that they appear after average in the white box above. When this is shown you will hit enter and watch the average appear. This is the same basic idea to all of the formulas. You will highlight, see them in the box and then click on them and hit enter.

The formula that will be used for percentage is this symbol: /

This is the division symbol, inside of the cell next to the percent, you will type in: =(B10/B11) and watch what pops up.

There are other formulas as well, some harder than others but once they are learned then the Microsoft Excel program is alot easier to use and a great tool of use in the classroom.

- i feel that if students keep up and no one falls behind, then this lesson will go smoothly and the students will get it down easily and be able to apply what they know now for further use of Micorsoft Excel.

CLOSURE:

At the end of the day i will ask the students to print out their sheets that they have practiced on, with just that as a guide, i will have them make another one up of a topic picked by me, this could be anything. the students should be able to hold their own and make a nice spreadsheet with correct answers. if not then i will assess what went wrong with each student while they are doing this quiz and help them out with what they are having problems with. For homework, i will have them come up with ideas that night that can be used for a sreadsheet for the next day in class. This will be their own spreadsheet that they will be graded on.
